September 9th - September 15. 2002 Gun Lake Camping and Spruce to Gun Lake Ride! The "Ultimate" Single Track, Mountain Bike Tour On Friday Sept. 13th, 02, we set off in groups of 4, flying from the dock at Gun Lake Resort, in Tyax Air's Dehavilland Beaver, piloted by Owner Dale Douglas. Visit Tyax Air Service - Vancouver, Squamish, Whistler, Tyax Air Service for more info. Our destination, Spruce Lake in the Soutern Chilcotin Mountains, a 25 minute, breathtaking scenic flight. The "DHC-2 Beaver floatplane can fly riders into sub-alpine Spruce Lake for the 25 km Gun Creek Trail - one of the best rides in B.C. Dropping through alpine meadows carpeted with wildflowers, following the raging Gun Creek, this trail is quintessential B.C. riding; big mountains, tight singletrack and incredible views." copied from Tyax Air Service Web Site
We rode some simply awesome single track, as these pictures present. We are hoping to recieve other photo's from the group, so they can also be posted onto this web photo journal. The ride took us from the high mountain alpine trails, down through switch-backs to the river. We rode through forested areas, on white sand trails, as we descended from the alpine. The single track includes many technical sections, however over 85% is rideable, even for intermediate riders! The views, thrills and river valley scenery, combine to make this THE most exciting Mountain Biking, I, as well as many others in the group have experienced. Between 1200hrs, and 1500hrs, we rode the trail. Suddenly, it was over, and we passed out of the river valley, onto a logging road, and a steady, gradual climb, back to the Gun Lake ridge, and descent to the Lake. Many in the group were back in camp, opening cold ones, while some of us continued on. Finally back at camp, there was the task of climbing off the bike, inhaling serious medical supplies, and cracking that first cold one! What a rush this trip was! My thanks to all of the group for making this a life experience! As we sat around camp, quietly waiting for the next event, we realized how special this trip had been. Dinner for 18, Keg Steaks, Alaska King Crab, steamed veggies, excellent wine, great comradeship, and many stories kept us going. What a Day!!! :-)))) Camp Site Pics....from Sunday after the restful Saturday, and a camping gourmet dinner Saturday evening.
