Quite frequently, we are able to pack-up "Columbus", our 1998 Ford Explorer, with our camping gear, and head off to one of many great camping spots for a two-three night stay. From Whistler, we are able to access many different camping destinations, within a 2-4 hour drive. This page includes information about our camping destinations, with descriptions and pictures. We hope you enjoy reviewing these excellent camping sites! July 2002 July 20-21: Gun Lake Resort, Gold Bridge B.C. Located on the shores of Gun Lake this beautiful, clean, and well maintained private campground consists of 18 lake-front open sites, each with a contained fire-pit, and picnic table. Garbage, bottles and can collectors are close-by, and the clean "Biffy" includes cold/hot showers. Gun Lake was warm, and the water-front area clean, with a shallow shore-line as one heads out for a swim. Gun Lake is located in the south-western section of the Caribou-Chilcotin Tourist Region, an area unsurpassed for rugged, unspoiled scenery. This area is rich in gold mining history, and some still pan for gold in the surrounding streams, and creeks. Summer access to this area is a 2+ hour drive north of Whistler, through Pemberton and up and over the Hurely Pass (Logging Road, gravel with lots of dust), through Bralorne to Gold Bridge. Gun Lake Resort owned and maintained by Bill, is off Lakeview Road. "The area known as the Bridge River Valley is full of British Columbia history. It has railways, ghost towns, flooded valleys, old mines and trails. Since the year 1859, when gold was first discovered on Bridge River, this region has been home to miners and their families. The big gold rush began in the 1930's at the Bralorne-Pioneer Mine near Gold Bridge. It was the richest gold claim in Canada, producing more than $145 million in gold. It closed in 1970. Visit the past as you wander the old mine ruins and ghost towns. The scenery is dramatic with rugged mountains, intricate river canyons, rushing streams and deep blue lakes." quote taken from www.morgansales.com We had a great 2 days, and shared this adventure with our good friends Brian, Heidi, Lar, and Liam, as well as Larry. We enjoyed great food, several cold ones, majestic scenery, and great weather!! Here are some pictures :-)))
